Individual Therapy is the most common
form of psychotherapy. This format allows the patient to explore
unresolved issues, while having the full attention of the therapist.
Healing and change occur within the context of the relationship between
the patient and the therapist.
The
individual therapy setting provides a safe environment to
identify and explore the problem(s), and examine solutions that are
feasible for each individual.
Group Therapy
brings together a group of people who
have a common interest, such as women executives, or
teenage girls, step mothers/fathers, etc. This format
allows for a great deal of dynamic interaction and
feedback among the participants while focusing on the
common theme.
Empowerment
and personal growth groups
for women have been part of my practice for years.
Group therapy offers an alternative for the person who
may need more support in dealing with their issues.
Couple's Counseling examines the
relationship
between the partners in terms of their expectations of
one another, styles of communication (verbal/nonverbal), and the balance
of power within the relationship.
Attitudes
toward sex, money, children, and other important issues are explored and
specific recommendations are given for specific problems.
Pre-marital
counseling offers a window into the future of the couple and the
opportunity to develop common and individual goals for the relationship.
Family Counseling views the family as a
system and each member an important element of that system. Family is
the basic component of any society. What goes on in families eventually
reflects in the society.
Working with
each family and helping the members will eventually result in healing
the community at large. Counseling gives tools to families to resolve
their conflicts. Families may be stressed due to influences from within
the family such as domestic violence, or children's behavioral problems.
The
stress may be due to external factors such as losing a
job. Family counseling helps to bring harmony, understanding, and
balance to the family by allowing each member to voice her/his needs and
be heard by other members. |
